Alright folks, today was a day of sacrifice for me to say the least. Today was the final day of my nine day vacation and how do I spend it? Being stuck in Barnes and Nobles for three hours and then going home to do nothing for another eight. All of this after getting five hours of sleep after a fourteen hour long day away for a debate tournament. Now all of that may seem terrible...because it kind of was, but it was for a very good cause. My friend Brian Woo was in a bind for himself and a friend to get out of the house that day to see a movie. I live like three blocks away from the movie theatre, yet I was asked to drive seven miles away to pick up these two friends of mine. This was a challenge for my mom would have to go that much farther out of her way to let me go out on a day that I was supposed to stay at home and do homework. I decided to cash in the favour I can ask from winning the trophy the other day, I only get one favour out of this by the way, in order to aid Brian. So my mom picked them up and dropped us off at Barnes and Noble. The two went off to see a movie as I stayed at Barnes and Noble and did...absolutely nothing. Then, they went to go eat while I stayed at Barnes and Noble again. This lasted from 10:30a.m.-2:05p.m. Now you may be thinking to yourselves,"what kind of friend is Brian to make his friend stay at a bookstore all day?" However, not only did Brian ask me to come along to both the movies and to eat, he even offered to buy my ticket for me. I just decided to stay behind today. Then, at like 2:05p.m., I dropped the two off and went back home where, as you know, I did nothing.
Problem of the Day-
Day#2- English Homework Apathy.
In all honesty, even though I am in an honours level English class, I have not a read a book that was assigned to me for any of my English classes since seventh grade. Thanks to this very detrimental habit, I can barely maintain the A- I have received in my English classes throughout my high school years. I have yet to see any true fruits of my labour yet, however, with my homework considerably easier(duh) and my understanding of the material without the need to bug Rebecca in the morning, I am hoping for an easier quarter in Ms. McGrady's class. Like I tell everyone else I know, please do your homework, do not be like me.
Random Ranting Section:
Today's ranting topic is provided by Andrea Shintani.
"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."
Note: Andy did not actually give me this quote, but looking at her AIM screen name made me think of this classic quote, thus she indirectly influenced today's rant.
Now, when we look at this quote, what we can derive from its meaning(I can) is that no matter what you are given in life, you can always make the best out of things. You do not need all of these flashy things or fancy cover ups to develop a completely coherent and acceptable persona. I will be taking this in two different directions today: one being that of people that wear too much make up(lol) and the other being people who try to be something that they are not. First off, this would not be in my rant except for the fact that I was talking to one of my friends earlier about how girls that wear too much make up look pretty darn scary. Listen ladies(and some guys), I know my opinion probably does not matter to you, but the thing is that if the make up you plan to wear takes longer than ten minutes to apply, more than likely, that is way too much make up. There is no one on the planet so ugly that you need that long to make yourself look acceptable(and hey, if you are, all of that make up is wasted effort, I am telling you that right now). The thing is, people look good with the all natural look, and it is what, I am sorry to all non-monotheists, God pretty much intended upon. I am not saying all make up is bad, but it is bad to cover up the real you with a bunch of overpriced junk that probably will not have that high of an enhancement effect. Secondly, many people, especially in high school, seem to see it fit for them to take on personalities and styles that are not their own in order to gain an external acceptance from the people around them. This, as a whole, worsens the relationship between you and the people you are trying to gain acceptance from in most cases and is totally not good for yourself either. You are you, there is, for the most part, nothing wrong with that. If you have to change who you are in order to gain the acceptance of others, than these really are not the kind of people that you should be associating yourself with. It just really is not smart. So the entire point of this is to say that we as people should work with what we are given because, contrary to our own self-conscious reservations about ourselves, really is enough to show others what a great person you really are. Alright.
Final Note:
If it was not for band I would be ditching school tomorrow.
Thank you for reading.
